Ohio University alumni love saying 'I do' at OU

Although many Ohio University alumni will flood onto campus for homecoming, this is one weekend typically avoided by former students planning on-campus weddings.

When Christina Seifert, a 2004 OU graduate, and her fianc+

because that's when homecoming and football and everything happens she said.

Even though only one couple has reserved the chapel for this homecoming weekend, it usually books back-to-back weddings on Saturdays during the summer, said Megan Brown, special projects coordinator for the Office of University Events.

Summer is the most popular time for weddings, followed by Spring and Fall quarters. Special events weekends during the academic year, however, can add stress to the planning process, with increased demand for hotel rooms and parking, Brown said.

Most couples are OU alumni and reserve the non-denominational chapel at least six months before their wedding date.

The booking fee is $150, but the cost may be reassessed to adjust for future increases to the minimum wage, she said.

It's not like we're really setting out to make a huge profit off the chapel Brown said. We just need to have enough income to cover the hours that it's taking to run it and the maintenance of the chapel and stuff like that.

After the couple noticed the chapel on a past homecoming visit, Cultice reserved Galbreath and the Ridges Auditorium reception space before he even proposed to Seifert in March.

We went and saw Galbreath

and it was just perfect

Seifert said. It's so simple

and it just reminds us of OU.

The Ridges Auditorium, which is owned by the-

it kind of shows them a little bit about Athens and Ohio University
