Softball coach talks about professional football, musicals

Roanna Brazier has been the head softball coach for Ohio since 1997. In that time, the Kansas graduate has compiled more than 200 wins. Brazier recently sat down with The Post's Kevin Wiseman to talk about football, The Sound of Music and hobbies.

The Post: What got you interested in softball?

Roanna Brazier: Softball was a game that my family always just went out and played. All my brothers and sisters -I'm the youngest of five -played baseball and softball and it was just kind of something that we always did, even at family reunions.

Post: What's your favorite sport besides softball?

Brazier: I love to watch pro football. Love to watch pro football. As far as being able to play, volleyball.

Post: Who's your favorite pro football team?

Brazier: Kansas City Chiefs.

Post: How are the Chiefs going to do next year?

Brazier: Oh, they're going to be great.

Post: They're playing the Bengals next year. That could be a tough game for them.

Brazier: (laughing) You're serious?

Post: I'm dead serious.

Brazier: (laughing) Well, we'll see.

Post: You need to brag a little now. You had a 0.93 ERA during the 1990 season. How good were you in college?

Brazier: I was all right. I was blessed being at a very good school with a lot of good ball players. The difference back then was the ball and the bats. I had the same bat for four years. These days you have a bat for a month, it goes dead, you get another one. The bats are a lot different and the ball was less lively. The ball that we played with was a mush ball by the 5th inning. There weren't as many home runs hit. I was OK, but I think the balls and the bats make a big difference these years.

Post: So you're being modest.

Brazier: (laughs)

Post: What's your favorite movie of all time and your favorite album of all time?

Brazier: I'm a big Supertramp fan, love Supertramp. Don't really know what album, but that's my favorite group, brings me a lot of good memories of family. And also, movie? I love The Sound of Music (laughing). Isn't that funny? It's one of those childhood things. I didn't get to watch much TV or see a lot of movies, and usually the movies we watched on a Sunday night Disney special or that was a special Easter movie that the family always sat down and watched.

Post: What hobbies do you have?

Brazier: I play the piano, that's my biggest hobby probably. And I have dogs that I like to run with and play with.
