THE FIRST HALF
- The game is underway here at Pruitt Field. It's a big weekend for the Bobcats, currently two games behind MAC leader Kent State and a game behind second-place Miami (who will stop in Athens tomorrow for the big rivalry game). If coach Neil Macmillan and company want that first round bye in the postseason tournament, two wins is probably a necessity.
- OU GOAL @ 27:00, Penalty corner attempt for OhioG? Louzeth Schutte picked up a loose ball at the top left of the goal box and absolutely crushed a shot that BSU goalkeeper Tiffany ShifflettG? Probably the start that Ohio was looking for
SCORE: OU 1, BSU 0
- 24:51, Ball State takes a very, very early timeout
- Ohio is really controlling the ball for the most partG? The Cardinals got off an early shot, but it's been all Ohio ever since
- Ohio's passing also looks as crisp as I've seen all yearG? Dull just made a nearly 30-yard connection to Katelyn Shelley, and that kind of efficiency has been evident during the first 15 minutes or so
- Another well-executed attack from OhioG? Estienne Coetzee drove the ball up the middle and handed off to Nikki Gnozzio, whose shot missed just left
- More pressure on the goal from the BobcatsG? A wide shot by Dull was almost deflected in by ShelleyG? If this keeps up, we're probably looking at another 3-0, 4-0 victory over BSU
- 13:00, Penalty corner attempt for BSUG? Casey Hunsicker passed to Jodi Mann, but the Ohio defense engulfed the shot
- BSU GOAL @ 12:14, Penalty corner attempt for BSUG? Hunsicker held onto the ball this time, dribbled to her left and the shot bounced passed OU goalie Jessie MartinG? Just goes to show that even if you appear to dominate a game, one shot can change things in a heartbeat
- 10:15, Penalty corner attempt for BSUG? Hunsicker faked her shot, pushed off to Mann, who dribbled to the left of the goal, but Jessie Martin laid out to block the shotG? Macmillan can't be happy with this turn in momentum
- The Coetzee twins just made a vicious attack at the goal, but Shifflett put her foot in the right placeG? Taylor Anderson then got the ball basically one-on-one with Shifflett, but the BSU goalie was again in the right place at the right timeG? A goal here in the last minute would be a major swinger for either team
HALFTIME SCORE: OU 1, BSU 1
First half notes and thoughtsG?
- After the early goal, Ohio probably should have ran away with this gameG? They are clearly the better team on paper and playing in front of the home crowdG? Ball State has showed a lot of heart, though, and if the last 15 minutes were any indication, the Bobcats are in for a fight in the second half
- Ohio is applying the most pressure on the goal, though, outshooting the Cardinals 10-4G? Shifflett has played a great game so far with seven saves, so Macmillan is going to have to figure out some way to get around herG? A few more penalty corner chances might help as well
THE SECOND HALF
- Some clouds are building to the west, but we should get regulation in before anything gets too seriousG? The big question for the second 35 minutes is: Will Ohio build on the significant pressure it's put on the BSU goal or can the Cardinals continue to keep pace by executing at the opportune moments? Not a good startG? The Cardinals took the ball straight at the Ohio goal, although the defense held
- OU GOAL @ 33:16, Dull takes a pass from Jenna Green and pushes the ball into the goal while falling downG? It was a weird play from the press box, but Ohio found the back of the cage, and that's all that matters
SCORE: OU 2, BSU 1
- BSU's Brittany Hammer had a break away, but Martin took a chance, met her at the top of the box and laid down her body to halt the shot
- OU GOAL @ 25:40, Penalty corner attempt for OhioG? Schutte's shot was blocked, but Nikki Gnozzio worked her way into the flurry of bodies in front of the goal and punched it inG? That might be the clincher right there
SCORE: OU 3, BSU 1
- 19:30, Penalty corner attempt for OhioG? The BSU defense blocked Schutte's shot again and managed to clear the ball out before the Bobcats could attempt a second
- 13:00, Penalty corner attempt for Ball StateG? Ohio disrupted Ball State's penalty corner play and cleared the ball from the box before the Cardinals could attempt a shot
- It's going to take a serious turn of events in the last 10 minutes for Ball State to pull off the upsetG? Ohio is controlling the ball much like they did to start the first half and showing no signs of letting up
- OU GOAL @ 10:53, R. Coetzee crossed a beautiful pass just out of the reach of Shifflett, leaving Green with a wide open goalG? All Green had to do was tap the ball into the goal for her first career score as a Bobcat
SCORE: OU 4, BSU 1
- I think I can say with confidence that Ohio will have a chance to even up the MAC standings with Miami tomorrow afternoonG? I don't see Ball State scoring three goals in eight minutes the way things are going
- OU GOAL @ 7:37, Coetzee finds the back of the cage for her 10th goal of the seasonG? Game over, folksG? The five goals is a season-high for Ohio, SID Michael Wiseman just informed me
SCORE: OU 5, BSU 1
- Jen McGill enters the game in relief of Martin with the win probably secured
- R. Coetzee and BSU's Maura Sawicki just made some contact and both players looked a little shaken upG? However, both remained in the game, so things probably weren't too serious
- Sawicki was just issued a green card, although it was tough to tell why exactly
- 3:30, Penalty corner attempt for OhioG? Ballard received the ball for the shot but took a big swing and missed
FINAL SCORE: OU 5, BSU 1
- A good win for Ohio... The team probably needed such a performance after last weekend's struggles... The real test comes tomorrow on Senior Day, though, as a win against the RedHawks is imperative
