The Easter season is one of devotion, energy ... and Enon.
Considering it's the Monday after Easter
we are expecting the show to be a blockbuster of spirit since we will be filled with the power of Resurrection and black jelly beans maybe some colored eggs
said guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist John Schmersal.
The Brooklyn, N.Y., band has a rather complicated history. All the members were in several different bands before coming together to become the electronic rock band Enon in 1999. Though originally from Brooklyn, the band's name comes from a western Ohio town.
Founder Schmersal is formerly of Brainiac; bass/synth/vocalist Toko Yasuda is formerly of Blonde Redhead; and drummer Matt Schulz is formerly of the Lab Partners. Enon lost a previous member and now are looking for a fourth member, trying out different people in between writing new songs, Schmersal said.
Enon is pretty much a rock band
but we do some electronic music as well
Yasuda said. Enon has been working with music that is live and energetic, and they want to see the energy that the audience gets from the new music.
The band has released five albums, including their latest, Lost Marbles and Exploded Evidence in 2005.
The Union, 18 W. Union St., is thinking it might sell out
said employee John Anthonsen.
The visit to The Union was not part of the original tour. This is their second trip to Athens, after playing with Blood On The Wall at The Front Room in May 2004.
I went to school there
so I know there's a lot of freaks there; so I wanted to do it
Schmersal said.
He also says they don't have any expectations about the show because you never know what people are going to think.
The show will be at 10 tonight upstairs at The Union. Cover is $7, and audience members are advised to come early.
