Ohio University Dining Services has launched a new Grab N Go option at Jefferson Dining Hall to test a program for the new Nelson Dining Hall, which is scheduled to open next year.
We didn't want to devote space to a Grab N Go at the new facility
and this gives us a chance to test this operation said Gwyn Scott, executive director of Culinary and Dining Operations.
The new option at Jefferson Dining Hall allows visitors to fill up a takeout container and an insulated cup with a lid. Students can choose from any of the normal menu items served at that meal, but the Grab N Go option is only available during regular dining hall hours.
The dining hall is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday for dinner, according to OU's website.
Scott said the reception to the new Grab N Go has been very favorable so far, and attendance has increased every day. During this quarter's first meal, 21 students chose the new option, and it has improved since, Scott said.
I think that number will continue to grow she said.
A student committee first discussed implementing this new type of Grab N Go, and Dining Services surveyed students last quarter.
Dining Services also added a variety of new items including wraps, subs and salads to Nelson Grab N Go as an alternative to the chicken and pizza it offers.
The initiative is something I would like to credit the students themselves on
Scott said.
Scott added there is no current plan for a takeout option at the other dining halls, but that could change depending on future feedback.
Student managers must also undergo a training course this quarter to better serve students eating at the dining halls, Scott said.
It's all too easy to just set the food on the table and not interact with the customer
she said.
