I would truly like to thank Ohio University for implementing the Second Helping program founded by OU student Stephanie Pleli. This program takes the leftover food from the dining halls and donates it to the poor and homeless in southeastern Ohio. OU is one of only a handful of universities in the United States that serves the poor in this way. Hundreds of impoverished individuals and families have benefited from the Second Helping program this year.
The kindness and social conscience of Ohio University faculty and students is to be commended. Thanks to the leadership of Dr. McDavis, Rich Neumann and others, the Second Helping program is still going strong. Ohio University should be commended for its giving spirit and efforts in the community.
