The newest addition to the Performing Arts and Concert Series lineup might have people listening to the TV show One Tree Hill’s theme song.
Pop singer Gavin DeGraw, who sing the TV show’s theme song “I Don’t Want To Be,” will perform in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. Admission is $45 for the first 10 rows and $25 for the remainder of the seating.
Unlike similar shows in MemAud, DeGraw will not have an opening act. Instead, he will be the only act to perform, Andrew Holzaepfel, the senior associate director of student activities, said.
The concert is part of the second leg of DeGraw’s RAW tour, which is performed in theaters and similar venues around the nation. The tour started Wednesday at Playhouse Square Center in Cleveland.
“We’re thrilled just to amongst some of the venues that he’s playing at,” Holzaepfel said. “We are one of the few colleges amongst a very long list of pretty big venues and some major markets.”
As the name suggests, the tour is set up to be more raw because his songs will be performed as a trio instead of with a full band.
Along with “I Don’t Want To Be,” DeGraw is known for his songs “Chariot,” “Best I Ever Had” and “Not Over You.” He has more than two million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Holzaepfel has heard excitement from Athens residents and students.
“I did (a Resident Assistant’s) fair last week with the 300 RAs, and there was a lot of excitement around that show,” he said.
