Man arraigned for robbery of OU student

An Athens man who was arrested Saturday for robbing an Ohio University student was arraigned in court yesterday.

Anthony Young, 18, was arraigned in Athens County Municipal Court forcommitting theft and inflicting harm on OU senior Filip Petrusic. Young is charged with robbery.

Young, along with an unknown person, allegedly grabbed Petrusic from behind near the cemetery on West State Street and proceeded to hit him in face several times. The two men took his wallet and cell phone.

Young was arrested and booked at the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The other suspect fled from police and is still at large, according to a release from the Athens Police Department.

He is also charged with obstructing official business, a misdemeanor, according to SEORJ’s website.

Chief Tom Pyle believes that Young and the other man robbed and assaulted another person Saturday morning behind Athens Middle School, according to the release.

Aggravated assault is a second-degree felony. It carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison and a maximum fine of $15,000 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Young was given a bond of $5,000. He was still in jail at press time.

Young is scheduled to reappear in court for a preliminary hearing April 12 at 2 p.m.
