Faculty, Student Senates unite

Faculty Senate last night endorsed a Student Senate resolution encouraging constituent input and comprehensive review in the presidential evaluation process.

Student Senate's resolution, passed after the Ohio University Board of Trustees released the report of an ad hoc committee on Presidential Evaluation Policy. The committee recommended replacing the 360-degree Evaluation ' which included constituent input ' with a yearly review by the board, without contribution.

Both student and graduate student senates passed resolutions against the new evaluation format earlier this year.

Senate Chairman Sergio L+

he said. And we thought it was a good idea to phrase our resolution as a statement of support of theirs.

Many faculty members expressed a desire to do more.

I'm a little embarrassed that the students have managed to trump us history professor Michele Clouse said. I'm wholehearted in supporting the resolution but we are the Faculty Senate and ... I think we need to be leaders for our students.

English professor Beth Quitslund said she thought it was good to show the Board of Trustees a united front.

I think there's a rhetorical strength in saying this comes from our students

she said. I think it makes the university community look more united ... And the students have more of a holder influence

a stakeholder influence

that I think we're not perceived as having.

The senate passed the resolution unanimously, though most agreed further discussion of possible action was necessary.
