Ohio University’s Graduate Student Senate came to a resolution last night to support a new unified bus system that could save students' lives and their gas money.
At the last GSS meeting, Michael Lachman, a graduate student studying environmental studies, gave a presentation about his plan to reform the current Athens bus transit system. Lachman would like to reduce students' reliance on cars by extending weekend and evening service hours and creating a universal fare for all bus services.
Students would be expected to pay anywhere from $10-20 per quarter to fund the improved service. He said his plan provides multiple benefits, such as decreasing the number of drunk driving cases and increasing access to local jobs.
He will now pursue his plan with the support of GSS.
