A man who pleaded not guilty to robbery in October 2012 changed his plea to guilty Thursday during an Athens County Court of Common Pleas pretrial hearing.
Gary Wooten, a resident of Glouster, also pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and two counts of involuntary manslaughter, first-degree felonies after allegedly punching Harley Aaron Pruitt, a man from Chauncey, until he was beaten unconscious. Pruitt died in Grant Medical Center two days later, according to a previous Post article.
Because of his change of plea, Wooten could potentially be sentenced to prison for up to 19 years, and could also receive a fine of up to $45,000, Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said.
He added that Wooten’s consequences would not be determined until his sentencing, which is scheduled for June 7 at 11 a.m., according to the docket.
