A 3-year-old Athens girl died this morning after she was struck by a car on East State Street east of Hope Drive.
Sophia M. Sheets ran into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle traveling east on East State Street that was being driven by Linda Phillips, 73, of Athens, according to a news release from the Athens Police Department.
Athens County Emergency Medical Services transported the toddler to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Athens Police Department officials declined to provide more details and deffered to their news release, which says there is no other information available at this time as the investigation continues.
