Three local writers will fight a literary war against hunger as they read from their work today.
OU will host Mark Halliday, Zakes Mda and Rachael Peckham for the Writers Harvest, a nationwide benefit that engages writers to raise money for food banks and similar charities.
The event, organized by OU’s creative writing program, will take place at 7:30 tonight in the Forum Theater in the Radio-TV Building. Admission is $5 and all proceeds go to Southeastern Ohio Food Bank’s Second Harvest, which serves 10 counties in southeast Ohio.
Halliday and Mda are both OU professors. Halliday has written books of poems called Jab, Selfwolf, Tasker Street and Little Star. Mda authored Cion, a common reading book for OU freshmen.
Peckham graduated from OU and is a professor at Marshall University. She serves as an adviser for Et Cetera, Marshall’s annual literary magazine.
Last year, OU’s Writers Harvest event raised $1,111, according to a university news release. This year’s goal is $1,500.
