Losing four of five games wasn't how the Ohio softball team would have liked to start its 2005 season. Winning was what the team expected, and many were disappointed when it only happened once.
I am very disappointed with the way the games went
coach ¥Roanna Brazier said. I expected to go in there winning all four games. The teams are good but are definitely beatable.
Ohio (1-4 overall) began its season Friday in games against the College of Charleston and Villanova, and lost both games. The Bobcats lost to Charleston, 9-1, and Villanova, 4-2.
The team then competed in two games Saturday, winning its first game of the season against Fordham, 10-6. Ohio scored three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and three in the sixth.
The winning streak didn't go past one game, though, as the team took on host East Carolina and lost, 9-0, in five innings.
Ohio competed Sunday against East Carolina in the final round of play and lost, 12-0, in five innings. With the loss, the team's chances of playing in the championship game were over.
They just flat out beat us Brazier said. They were hitting the ball crazy and had a lot of strike outs against us.
To Brazier it seemed the team's hitting was there but not when runners were in position. Brazier also said the pitchers could have done a lot better.
Our starting lineup did a good job but our pitchers need to step up she said. The pitchers need to throw better; we had a lot of walks.
The Bobcats will have two weeks off before they return to action March 4-6 at the Louisiana State Purple and Gold Challenge in Baton Rouge, La.
The team has a lot of time to work on what we had problems with this weekend
Brazier said. I saw a lot of good things
but we have a lot to work on.
