The Bobcats have had better days.
Ohio had a tough time at the Jesse Owens Classic, as many athletes could not meet their season bests. No Bobcat finished higher than sixth
in any event, and the number of NCAA Regional qualifiers stayed at five.
Junior Janielle Hunt had Ohio's best performance of the day, finishing 10th in the 3,000-meter steeple chase with a time of 11:01.61. She inched closer to the regional-qualifying time of 10:50.
Hunt closed to within two seconds from the school record in the event, which was set in 2001 by
Tracy Weithoff with a time of
10:59.45.
Freshman Courtney Weiss also set a season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 16th in a time of 1:04.04.
Juniors Kari Summers and Annie Beecham ran the 5,000-meter run for the first time in more than a month. They finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 16:52.66 and 16:56.13.
Junior Bahiyjaui Allen finished eighth in shot put with a throw of 15.02 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay team also finished eighth with a time of 3:53.76.
Seniors Jessie Tanner and Susan Plungis placed 11th and 12th in the javelin, respectively with throws of 37.07 meters, and 36.51 meters.
Junior Cathy Udeani failed to clear her first height. This came just one week after she qualified for the regional meet with a career-best jump of 1.75 meters.
Junior Emily Amendola, another regional qualifier, did not register a mark in the hammer throw, as she fouled out.
Coach Clay Calkins did not return repeated phone calls yesterday and Saturday.
Ohio will return home this week for the Ohio Open Saturday at 10 a.m.
