Matching up against the Ohio soccer team has become a tough task for opponents.
With the exception of goalkeeper Melissa Parra, the Bobcats have shown, thus far, that any player can score at any given time.
Eight players have netted a goal so far this season.
Coach Stacy Strauss said she feels that a well-balanced attack makes the team a tough matchup against anybody.
I think (being balanced) is very dangerous
she said. It's hard for our opponents to tell who our go-to players are so they have to defend us equally. Doing that is going to cause gaps and allow different people each game to step up.
Forward Tiffany Horvath echoed Strauss' praise of the well-rounded team.
I think it helps us a lot she said. It's definitely an advantage. The more weapons we have
the better it will be. If there's only one goal-scorer
our opponent can just mark that person out of the game.
Horvath and fellow forward Maggie Rojas-Alford led the team with two goals apiece. Six other Bobcats each have one goal. Lacking a go-to goal-scorer does not seem to bother Strauss one bit.
I think that it is still yet to come where one or two individuals step up and take over the lead in goal scoring
she said. I really think it is a compliment to our team and to the parody we have. A balanced attack is really a threatening attack.
Ohio (3-5-0, 1-1-0 Mid-American Conference) will look for its second straight win when facing Northern Illinois today.
Last time in action, the 'Cats pulled off a dramatic 2-1 win over Eastern Michigan. Freshman Erika Dietz knocked in her first collegiate goal in the eighth minute of the second overtime to seal the victory.
The Bobcats then will continue their MAC schedule at Western Michigan on Sunday.
Outside back Sara Williams foresees a victorious weekend for Ohio soccer.
I see ourselves coming out with two wins this weekend
she said. We're just going to go out
play hard and get the job done.
Ohio will try to get the job done when they visit Northern Illinois at 4 p.m. today. The Bobcats' bus will then roll into Kalamazoo for a match against Western Michigan at 1 p.m. Sunday.
