In the past eight seasons, the Bobcats have never posted a losing record in dual meets.
However, after dropping three of its past four duals, that streak could come to an end this weekend, as Ohio will compete in its final two duals of the season against Xavier and Miami.
The Bobcats, who are no strangers to adversity, will have to rely on their swimmers against Xavier, as the divers will not make the trip to Cincinnati.
“The divers won’t be making it to Xavier,” senior Kristin Capcik said. “Their facility doesn’t have diving boards, so only the swimmers will be going.”
Ohio has topped Xavier in the prior three meetings, beating out its Big East opponent 137.5-113.5 last season.
But despite the historical success, the Bobcats will be swimming in events foreign to the team on Friday, as the Musketeers swim unorthodox events including 3x50-yard relays.
“Hopefully we’re going to put up some good times,” coach Derick Roe said. “We don’t typically get to swim these type of events, so it should be a fun meet.”
The divers and swimmers will meet up on Saturday in Oxford, though, to compete against Mid-American Conference rival Miami, a winner of seven consecutive duals this season.
“Obviously Ohio and Miami has a great rivalry,” Capcik said. “When you face a team like Miami you always want to bring your best. Miami’s a great team and we want to go in there a do what we know what we can do.”
The diving team has been dependable in their performances this season, winning every event it competed in last weekend.
“We’re all so close,” Capcik said. “All four of us could dive and do spectacular and any of us can win in any competition.“
For Capcik and her classmates, Miami will be the seniors’ last dual meet before the MAC Championships.
“I never thought I would be diving for Ohio,” Capcik added. “I want to leave here and for them to say ‘She worked really hard and loved being a Bobcat.”
