After Faculty Senate agreed to include domestic partner benefits in its handbook two years ago, it was made official at the beginning of October.
At Faculty Senate’s Oct. 8 meeting, a resolution was passed to put domestic partner benefits in the university handbook, though the changed policy was agreed to years ago.
“It’s not a new benefit, it’s just a correction we have to make that was already instituted,” said Elizabeth Sayrs, chairwoman of Faculty Senate.
The faculty handbook can only be changed by Faculty Senate, and though there was no policy in the handbook to support domestic partners’ benefits, faculty members were already taking advantage of the changed policy, Sayrs said.
The passed resolution was more of a formality, she added.
