Post Letter: Former 110 director praises Suk

People, you are missing the point! I have recently received numerous e-mails from former Marching 110 members and have read the Post letters. My wife and I watched the HGTV broadcast of the Rose Parade, as it had no commercials. I only wish all the Ohio University fans would have known that fact. For those who did not see any of the band, let me tell you what you missed. The 110 looked and sounded fantastic. As someone who has observed the 110 over the years, I was filled with pride and, to be honest, was subjected to goose bumps when the band members marched playing Stand Up and Cheer.

Hopefully, ALL Ohio University administrators, alumni, students and fans recognize the prestige the band's numerous performances in Pasadena, Calif., brought Ohio University. In a day when the vast majority of university marching bands are like watching paint dry or grass grow, you should appreciate and enjoy what you have in the 110. In my opinion, Dr. Suk has brought the band back to new heights both musically and visually and I hope he receives the respect and admiration he deserves.

I am extremely proud to say that I was a part of the 110 and congratulate the band in its Rose Bowl accomplishments. The 110 is truly The Most Exciting Band in the Land.

Hio.

Gene Thrailkill was director of the Marching 110 from 1966 through 1970.
