Ohio swept its second weekend of conference play.
The Bobcats won twice this weekend to extend their unbeaten streak to three games by beating Northern Illinois 2-0 on Friday and Western Michigan 2-1 yesterday.
We're elated with the weekend and hope that we can gain confidence from it
coach Stacy Strauss said. For us to be successful this year we're going to have to continue to win on the road.
Senior goalkeeper Jess MacLean saved four shots Friday en route to her second consecutive shutout. Senior forward Amy Lower provided the offense with a goal in the 25th minute.
Sophomore forward Kim Nordtveit added another off a corner kick in the 71st minute to propel the Bobcats (5-5-1, 2-1-1 Mid-American Conference), over the Huskies (4-6-2, 0-2-2).
Northern Illinois outshot the Bobcats, 12 to six, but much like some of Ohio's early-season struggles, the Huskies had only five of their shots on goal.
The win was Ohio's first against Northern Illinois since 2002, and first in DeKalb since 2001.
I thought it was a little redemption for past classes Strauss said. It was good to get some of those memories out and replace them with a good memory.
The Bobcats continued their attack yesterday. After a scoreless first half, Ohio broke through twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Junior midfielder Jackie Hanson netted the first goal of the game, and her first of the year, off a rebound in the 48th minute. Sophomore forward Kelsey Pichel gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead with a strike from 30 yards out in the 55th minute.
The Broncos (5-5-1, 2-2) scored a late goal in the 80th minute that prevented the Bobcats from their third consecutive shutout. But losing the shutout did not dampen the effect the defense has had on Ohio's recent surge.
It's a little disappointing to give up the late goal but certainly great to come away with two wins on the road
coach Stacy Strauss said.
