New evaluation plan worries Senate

Student Senate President Tim Vonville described Ohio University's new presidential evaluation policy as a problem not only for Student Senate

but for students in general in a speech yesterday evening.

In his State of the Senate speech, Vonville said the senate will push for a comprehensive review of OU President Roderick McDavis to be conducted this year.

The new policy, adopted by the Board of Trustees at its February meeting, requires that a comprehensive evaluation, which includes input from various constituent groups, occur in the year prior to the end of a president's contract. McDavis' contract expires next year. According to that policy, annual reviews will require communication solely between the Board of Trustees and the president.

The senate passed a resolution earlier this quarter asking that student input be required annually and that a comprehensive

evaluation occur this year. The board chose not to require annual constituent input, but has yet to decide which type of review will be conducted.

Vonville also spoke about the progress of the senate in general.

We've had both adversity and triumph this quarter he said.

He mentioned the recent impeachment of senate Vice President Amanda Roder as an example of the adversity the senate has faced. Roder was impeached on charges that she did not make necessary documents available to senators and that she failed to conduct quarterly evaluations.

Vonville said he will publicly censure Roder at today's senate meeting but is hoping to move away from the impeachment.

Student Senate currently is forward-looking he said This is something we don't want to be entrenched upon.

Vonville also discussed the senate's successes with the Five Year Vision Ohio Implementation Plan, the new marijuana policy and other projects.
