Open-air music tradition continues with Four Fest

While the average Athens party is limited to a house or apartment, Four Fest is bringing people to a giant field and letting them make their own.

Organizers of the fest provide everything for attendees to have a good time at the location, more than two miles southeast of campus off Stagecoach Road: transportation to and from the event, a big field to run around in and live music to chill by.

It's like a spring break party

said fest creator and Ohio University alumnus Dominic Petrozzi. It's one last party for everyone before graduation.

Petrozzi started the event primarily as a music festival three years ago when he was a junior at Ohio University. Since its inception, the event has evolved into something that is not just a music festival or an outdoor party but rather a conglomeration of both.

We leave it up to the attendees to make their own fun he said.

A big part of that fun is the music. The acts for this year's fest include artists predominately from Ohio as well as national acts. Columbus hip-hopper B.YONEST has performed at all fests so far and will do so again this year. Other hip-hop acts include Gift and F.A.M. Fresh Ent. Guest and One Eyed Show provide a laid-back acoustic sound that is neither jam-band nor hippie music. DJ Seif will be spinning all day and Columbus crooner Miss Meghna rounds out the top performing acts. Plenty of other artists will entertain throughout the day. Athens band Downplay will cap off the day of music, ending around 11 p.m.

Aside from the music, not much will be changing from last year, Petrozzi said. The organizers have found a system that works and are sticking with it.

When he started the festival three years ago, Petrozzi had no idea that it would be continued next year, let alone for future years.

(The fests) are kind of synonymous with Spring Quarter now G he said.

The festival, which drew 7,100 people last year, allows anyone 18 years old and up to attend. Underage consumption is often a problem at the fest, Petrozzi said, adding that the best defense against getting caught is to simply abstain.

Plans are already underway for Five Fest next year. The fest will hopefully become a tour, with the starting point in Athens. From there, the tour will journey on a 10-city trip in Ohio and the surrounding states, Petrozzi said.

Pre-sale tickets for Four Fest are on sale for $10 at Court Side Pizza, 85 N. Court St. and Atheneon Carry Out & Deli, 74 N. Court St. Attendees will also be able to buy tickets Saturday for $20.
