SMC to have first female president

Ohio University's Executive Director of Development Colleen Perry Keith will leave Athens on July 1 to become the President of Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina.

Keith, who has overseen all fundraising and advancement efforts at OU since September, will become SMC's first woman president and the first non-Methodist president. Keith is a practicing Roman Catholic.

I've loved my time at OU

Keith said, but these type of opportunities do not come along too often.

She added that after being nominated for the position, she decided to remain a candidate after a few weeks of consideration.

I spent years working in the United Methodist System so it's a position that I'm very comfortable taking Keith said.

She will be one of only eight female college presidents in South Carolina, three of whom are members of the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities.

SMC is a two-year junior college that was founded in 1911.

Keith noted that the school has a wonderful athletic program, and her OU connection could benefit OU sports in the future.

It's a great place for OU to seek out recruits in upcoming years. Keith said.
