77th Emmys bring multiple standout moments

The Emmys took place Sunday night, awarding many shows with congratulations for their incredible actors, production, writing and more.

The Studio,” an Apple TV original comedy starring Seth Rogen, swept the award show, winning 13 awards. This gave it the honor of being the comedy TV show to win the most Emmys in a single year. This achievement beat “The Bear,” which won 11 in 2024.

Fan favorites saw lots of awards across many categories, with “The Penguin” winning nine, “Severance” and “Adolescence” winning eight and “The Pitt” winning five Emmys.

Severance" received the most nominations of the night with 27.

This year’s Emmy speeches featured an original concept as a way to keep the talking to a minimum. Adrien Brody at the 2025 Oscars spent five minutes and 40 seconds on a speech, breaking a record for the longest in Oscar history.

The stakes were high this year, as Nate Bargatze, this year’s Emmy host, promised to donate $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Club nonprofit charity, but would remove funding from this pool for every second a celebrity's speech went over.

“Every second you go over 45 seconds, we abduct $1,000 away from the Boys & Girls Club,” Bargatze joked. “That’s tough, it’s brutal, what are you going to do though?”

This gag received poor feedback, and many criticized it as a cruel way of using aid for children as the punchline of a joke. Two real children from the organization were present at the show.

“They came to feel, though, more and more like props in the proceedings — supremely unfair,” Vogue wrote in regards to the children in attendance.

Overall, they revealed they were actually donating $350,000 to the organization.

Despite the short time limit, the speeches this year featured many heartfelt, emotional moments that amazed listeners.

Stephen Colbert received a standing ovation for his speech following “The Late Show” winning its first Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series. The win comes just two months after CBS announced its cancellation of the show after over ten years of runtime.

Colbert humorously commented on the reality of the cancellation of his show, and cracked jokes that he and his 200 employees involved with the production of “The Late Show” would need jobs.

“While I have your attention, is anyone hiring?” Colbert said while handing his resume to Harrison Ford.

Some records were broken during this year’s Emmys. Tramell Tillman became the first black man to win an Emmy for a supporting actor in a drama series.

“My first acting coach was tough, y’all,” Tillman said. “But all great mothers are.”

Netflix’s series “Adolescence” broke records as well, with actor Owen Cooper winning the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series.

This award made him the youngest male Emmy winner ever, at just 15 years old. “Adolescence” is Cooper’s debut screen role and his first acting credit.

“When I started these drama classes a few years back, I didn’t expect to be in the United States, never mind here,” Cooper said

Some other speech highlights include Britt Lower’s speech for Best Drama Actress, in which her speech script featured the words, “LET ME OUT,” on the back of the paper. This phrase was a nod to her role as Helly in “Severance,” a character who attempts to tell the audience she’s trapped during an important speech.

Hannah Einbinder, the winner of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Hacks," wrapped up her speech with a political statement.

“Go birds, f--- ICE and free Palestine,” Einbinder said.

Before the speeches and nominations, celebrities could be seen sporting interesting looks down the red carpet.

The outfits seen at the award show ranged from stunning to unconventional, with many celebrities making bold fashion choices.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa was seen wearing a long, flowing pink gown. A video of her outfit posted to TikTok gained over three million views, with fans in awe of the look in the comments.

Jenna Ortega sported a risqué bejeweled top that provided little coverage. The look adds to Ortega’s recent collection of gothic-inspired red carpet outfits, as it was paired with dark makeup.

Some strange outfits were seen during the award show as well, as a mysterious figure was seen dressed as a realistic Labubu, mascot head and all. It was later revealed to be Joella Dynasty, a drag queen featured in Season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Some outfits featured political messages, with both Meg Stalter and Hannah Einbinder sporting accessories that called for a ceasefire in Palestine.
