Graduate Student Senate passed a resolution at last night's meeting thanking Kathy Krendl, executive vice president and provost, for her service to Ohio University.
We think it is important for graduate students to recognize everything she has done
said Jennifer Schuler, vice president for communication of the
senate.
Krendl will start her new job as president of Otterbein College in July.
The resolution, which specifically mentioned her efforts to increase funding for graduate research and stipends, passed unanimously.
The senate also passed a resolution thanking Jennette Lovejoy, grant chairwoman of the senate, for her work with the Original Work and Travel Grant programs. The senate awarded her $500 for her work.
This is merely a token of our appreciation said Stephan Oechsle, vice president for committees and legislative affairs of the senate.
The Original Work and Travel Grant programs have grown to their largest sizes this year, said Pete Wickman, president of the senate. The programs amassed $70,000 this year for research and travel.
About 75 percent of applicants received grants because of the increase in funding, said Jennifer Dunn, senator from the College of Communication.
The new officers were also sworn in at the meeting.
Tracy Kelly, the new president, said they plan to update information on their Web site and meet with department heads to increase attendance at meetings next year.
This quarter, two meetings never got off the ground because not enough members were present for a quorum.
To conduct a meeting, half of the seated members must be present, according to the senate's bylaws.
