Obama shows 'what we can do together'

Hello to Ohio, Pennsylvania and all the remaining states holding primaries and caucuses!

My name is Jim Hupp. I was born and raised in Chillicothe. At 17, I joined the Navy. I was discharged honorably at 21, came home and graduated from Ohio University at 25. I moved to Minnesota, worked at Honeywell as an engineer for 32 years and retired to Wisconsin. I have relatives and friends in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana.

I believe in balanced budgets, living within your means, avoiding excessive debt and caring for this planet in a manner that allows everything to thrive, not just survive. The freedoms and standard of living we have in the USA are a gift, not an entitlement.

I would like to present my enthusiastic endorsement of Barack Obama for president of the United States of America.

Why should you vote for Barack Obama, as I did?

Certainly he is charismatic, exciting, articulate, well educated and a religious man. A man of the world yet also a man of the people: hopeful, intelligent and has a plan for change. If you're willing to look on his Web site and pay close attention to his speeches, you will find all the details you will need. He is also a man who appears to know that he cannot bring about change of any significance by himself. Obama's speeches continually emphasize that change has to be generated from the bottom up. What Barack Obama has is the ability to inspire us to really want to work for the change he articulates; and that we all know is needed in the world today and into the future. His campaign demonstrates that he wants to work for and with the people of this country.

Hillary Clinton touts her 35 years of leadership in the special interest, influence-pedaling environment of Washington, D.C., as experience we should trust. Barack Obama has a plan to change this environment to a transparent government of the people and for the people.

Hillary Clinton talks about what she has done and can do for us. Barack Obama talks about what we can do together.

Barack Obama has demonstrated an ability to generate collaborative success in his public service life, in the legislatures of Illinois and the U.S. Senate, and in his extraordinary campaign for president. He has energized and inspired the grassroots of America to believe that we can be heard, we can change the way Washington works and we can change our country's direction.

Finally, Barack Obama understood the consequences of the Iraq war from the very beginning and opposed it. All of Barack's positions demonstrate the kind of thoughtful judgment I want in my president. What do you want?

I hope you will investigate Barack Obama for president. I feel certain that if you do, you will also work with many, many others and myself to elect Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee, and then president of the United States of America.

' Jim Hupp is a 1965 alumnus of Ohio University.
