Kirstein

Dean appointed to OU-HCOM Cleveland Campus

Ohio University’s newest dean will not reside in a Cutler Hall office. In fact, he will be more than a hundred miles from Athens.

OU’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine has hired Isaac Kirstein, an internal medicine physician, as dean of its Cleveland extension campus, according to an OU news release.

Kirstein will be transferring from Franciscan St. James Health in Chicago Heights, Ill., where he served as vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.

He currently serves as a member of the executive committee of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, and is a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission for the Advancement of Osteopathic Medical Education, according to the release.

OU President Roderick McDavis said in a previous meeting with The Post that he was proud OU was opening a medical campus in association with the Cleveland Clinic.

“For us to have a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, it means the Ohio University brand is in Cleveland,” McDavis said. “We’re more than Athens-centric.”

Although the Cleveland campus will not open until July 2015, OU-HCOM hired Kirstein on Tuesday in order to help transition the off-campus extension.

“Dr. Kirstein is a proven educator, leader and innovator,” said David L. Bronson, president of the Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers, in a news release. “We look forward to working with him to develop an outstanding medical education program in northeast Ohio.”
