The Athens County Commissioners hired a new director for the county's Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday.
Fred Davis will replace Mark Smith, who resigned from the position Sept. 19 after meeting with the commissioners. Smith, whose last day was Friday, was on a probationary period of 120 days, a typical process for all employees hired by the board, Commissioner Mark Sullivan said.
It just wasn't a good fit for the county
Sullivan said.
Davis was selected from the next three highest-scoring applicants among those in the search for a director three months ago. He will receive an annual salary of about $31,000, Sullivan said.
Davis, who will begin work Monday, most recently did contract work for a telecommunication firm and has served on the school board of the Alexander Local School District for 27 years. 17
