OUPD investigates Martzolff blazes; state fire marshal offers reward

The Ohio University Police Department is investigating three fires in Martzolff House as arsons but has not determined whether the incidents are related, Lt. Chris Johnson said.

We don't know

said Lt. Chris Johnson, adding that it is possible the fires ' two in an elevator and one in a trash can, all during the past week ' were set by three different people. We're not ruling anything in or out.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest, said Jessica Stark, OU media relations specialist.

Investigators have talked to students living in the South Green residence hall. However, department officials typically would not identify or confirm they have a suspect prior to that person being arrested and charged for a crime, Johnson said.

The charge in the case of these incidents would be arson or aggravated arson, he said. 17
