OU website a resource for connections, safety

There are plenty of university resources students can access without setting foot in Alden Library — and they’re all located on Ohio University’s main website.

DIRECTORY

The most essential web tool is in the top right corner of the home page: the search bar. Not only does it act as a regular search engine of OU information, but it also serves as a directory for every student and faculty member at OU if you change the drop-down menu to the right of the search bar from “Ohio.edu” to “People.”

COMPLAINTS

To contact OU’s ombudsman, Dianne Bouvier, she suggests coming into the office on Baker University Center’s fifth floor.

Bouvier serves as a “third party,” she said, to OU administrators, students and Athens residents who have complaints about the university. Bouvier can be reached at ombuds@ohio.eduor (740)593-2627. Find her online at www.ohio.edu/ombuds.

SAFETY

If a problem becomes more urgent, there are ways to get help other than calling 911. OU’s Police Department can be found on the Web at www.ohio.edu/police. Each officer’s individual contact information is listed, along with a list of recent solved and unsolved crimes.

OUPD also offers a safe ride back to the dorms from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. SAFE-T Patrol team members will either walk or drive students home within minutes of calling. They can be reached at (740) 593-4040 to walk students to anywhere on campus or just off campus.

To learn about campus emergencies as they happen, students can check the Emergency Programs website, www.ohio.edu/riskandsafety/emergencyprograms, which is frequently updated.

Students can also register to receive these updates via text by clicking the Emergency Notification System tab on the left side of the page.
