Athens residents found themselves in the dark last night when a down wire left thousands without power.
American Electric Power reported that 2,551 of its customers were without power last night, but the company expected power to be restored by 1 a.m. today.
We have a wire down outside of our Athens station
said Terri Flora, director of communications for AEP.
The power went out at 10:06 p.m. yesterday, Flora said.
