Edible eyeballs, hypnosis and a myth-busting historian will scare, mesmerize and educate tonight at Planet Ping.
Planet Ping, a three-hour event held at the Charles J. Ping Student Recreation Center, is an annual program that provides students with free Halloween-themed entertainment.
We have been doing Planet Ping for eight years or so. We have hay rides to the Ridges
pumpkin carving a hypnotist and a lot of free food said John Tanzer, who is in charge of reservations and special events at Ping.
This year Planet Ping is offering something new: a chance for students to find out the real history of The Ridges.
A doctoral member of the university is coming and giving presentations during the evening
Tanzer said.
The Ridges, which overlook Athens, is a popular place for students to visit during Halloween because of the various ghost stories that are associated with the Athens Lunatic Asylum, a psychiatric hospital that opened in 1874 that currently houses the Kennedy Museum of Art.
It gives people the opportunity to learn what actually went on and to dispel some of the not-so-respectful myths that people have about the facility and its history
