Every time I open The Post and find Ashley Herzog's column on the top of the opinion page, I can feel my heart begin to race and the angry little vein in my forehead start to pop out.
Occasionally, she has somewhat typical responses to issues ' typical in the sense that she has obviously done some research from very one-sided sources. But this last one, Women can ensure own safety with guns
took the cake.
Promoting the carrying of guns? Is this girl that ignorant or is she just plain psychotic? I strongly recommend Herzog to take a break from her ranting to observe the world around her. Take a Sociology class and learn the consequences of concentrated gun ownership. Learn how families who have guns in the home are more likely to have children who take the guns to school.
What is the problem with society? Is it really that enough people can't get guns or that too many people already have them? And a personal thought for Herzog: if she were in the situation she described of being attacked by a could-be rapist would she rather have the memory forever ingrained in her that she had to fight off (successfully or not) a rapist or that she killed someone who might or might not have actually done it?
I am a liberal feminist and obviously understand that women cannot always defend themselves in battles against those who are physically stronger than they are. But couldn't that also be the case for children being sexually molested or abused or for smaller men being raped by women (or men)?
Please Ashley, before you write another column about something you know little about, do more extensive research, because honestly, I found your column extremely offensive and demeaning to the women that you were supposed to be supporting.'
