JUST IN: Graduate Student Senate urges Hudson Web site update

Ohio University Graduate Student Senate is sending a resolution to Hudson Health Center requesting updates to its Web site, which senators said lacks critical sexual health information.

Senators voted on the resolution at tonight's meeting, giving Hudson until March 26 to make additions, including information on sexually transmitted infections and gynecological health.

Hudson has been promising to update the site for two years, senate president Dominic Barbato said. The Web site provides information on tattoo care and bee stings, he said, but is deficient in serious areas such as sexual health.

Also missing is information on the two-hour sexual health seminar the university requires women receiving birth control to attend, said Brittany Buxton, chair of senate's women's affairs committee.

The university has named this year the 'Year of the Woman

' but the Web site does not insure that women or men are being cared for Buxton said.

Also at the meeting, senate passed a resolution advocating university events that celebrate Black History Month and formed a committee to draft a survey on OU's potential switch to semesters.

Barbato said the survey will randomly sample the graduate student population to gauge their opinions on the possible change in the academic calendar.
