Women's center, guild to benefit from art sale

This Saturday, the Women's Art Guild is stepping out of the workshop and into the world of business.

The event, Back to the Bricks Arts and Crafts Show, involves up to 20 women who will be selling their artwork in hopes of raising money for the Athens County Women’s Art Guild and the Ohio University’s Women Center.

“We have all types of different art,” Nancy Baur, president and co-founder of the Guild, said.

Fiber art, knitting, candy, jewelry, ceramic tiles, celtic ceramic art, photography, all will be featured, Baur said.

The artists featured in the show will include Baur, Kelly Lawrence, Tina Kelsey, Sara Tucker, Ellen Petty and many others.

“All these women are just awesome and have such great work,” Baur said.

Andrea Gibson will be one of the featured artists. She will be a first-time vendor at the event and has just recently become part of the crew.

“I just thought it would be a good idea to have a showcase on homecoming so a large number of people would see our work,” Gibson said. “It is just a chance to get local artists and craft makers together.”

The free event begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. on the second floor atrium of Baker University Center.

“The program has honestly allowed me to met a lot of new and wonderful people,” Lawrence said. “We just wanted to create a place for fellow women and artists to meet and help them learn how to sell and create new things while having fun.”
