Swimming: 'Cats win final home meets

The Bobcats got back on the winning track this weekend.

After having its six-meet win streak broken, Ohio pulled off three victories. They defeated Kenyon College and Xavier on Friday and Ball State on Saturday at the Aquatic Center.

Taking on both Kenyon (7-5) and Xavier (6-12) on Friday, Ohio removed any doubt that the Miami loss was still affecting them. The Bobcats defeated Kenyon 105-93 and beat Xavier 132-67 in the double dual meet.

Ohio was able to take a lot out of the non-conference meets as they build up for the Mid-American Conference Championships.

We definitely take pride in our relay teams

Werner said. No two relay teams were the same this weekend but they all had the same great intensity.

Ohio was able to take 9-of-11 events against their two opponents.

On Saturday, the Bobcats dominated Ball State (2-6, 1-5 MAC) 172-126 in the final home meet of the season.

The meet was emotional for Ashley Marion, Carine Viera de Souza and Hallie English. It was the last time that the three seniors will swim in Ohio's Aquatic Center.

Marion and de Souza didn't disappoint in their last home meet.

Marion was part of three victories for the Bobcats. She was on both of the Bobcats' winning relay teams, the 400-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle and took first in the 100-yard freestyle. De Souza finished first in the 200-yard freestyle.

I have mixed emotions about it Marion said. It's going to be terrible not to see everyone next year

but overall I'd say it's a more happy time than a sad one.

For the second straight year, the swimmers were able to go undefeated at home. The Bobcats (8-3, 3-3 MAC) are 6-0 in the Aquatic Center.

We compete well at home

Werner said. We've always just been comfortable here and we like it and take pride in it.

With the meets from this weekend in the past, the Bobcats move on to their final dual meet of the season next weekend against Eastern Michigan.

I'd say we're about 95 percent there in terms of where we want to be for the MACs

Marion said. We have one meet left

and we're going to take as much out of it as possible.
