Post Letter: Neighbors can help control noise, too

On Monday night, I walked a block from my house to ask students who were drumming to tamp down their noise. I was nice, and suggested they line the walls of their rental house with heavy drapes to absorb their sound.

It is this personal touch by residents who dislike excessive noise by anyone that Athens’ Mayor Paul Wiehl should embrace, instead of being a jerk in saying recently that OU Student Senate’s proposed noise ordinance “will divide the community.”

Poor Paul!  He doesn’t think things through before opening his mouth.  We need to vote in a wiser person for mayor in this November’s local election.

One also doesn’t necessarily need to call the police to quiet down excessive noise. Just ask people to consider their neighbors and to figure out more creative and quieter ways to have fun. That worked on Monday and has every time I’ve personally visited a noisy house in a friendly way.

Hey, I’m a former OU student and know the personal touch is the best way to create friendly relationships within one’s neighborhood.
