Only four years ago, Divine Covering church was simply a small student-led bible study group. The group has since grown into a congregation of about 60 student members led by a minister who is a senior at Ohio University.
Jeremy Wright, the minister of Divine Covering, was one of the first students in the bible study group and became an ordained minister during the summer after his freshman year of college.
Divine Covering first began as a convenient place on campus where students could worship and share their spirituality, since many churches are located too far off campus for students to regularly attend, said Wright, an OU senior studying Health and Services Administration.
The church meets at 11 on Sunday mornings in Galbreath Chapel, located on College Green. For interested students, there will be an Easter service 11 a.m. Sunday in Galbreath Chapel.
Most of the members of Divine Covering are African American, and the church is nondenominational and similar to churches in which the students grew up at home, said Crystalyn Thomas-Davis, a member of Diving Covering and a junior studying journalism.
When I was a freshman
I decided that I would visit a number of churches before making my final decision but as soon as I went to Divine Covering I felt comfortable and didn't feel a need to see other churches said Thomas-Davis.
