YOUR TURN: It's time to call Susan Gwinn's ethics into question

With recent events, I feel some questions about Susan Gwinn's involvement in this election need to asked. These questions in no way reflect questioning of the BOE staff, whom I trust 100 percent.

In the 2000 presidential election, G.W. Bush won Florida by 537 votes. This allowed him to gain Florida's electoral votes and thereby gain the presidency. Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris was criticized for not extending deadlines and denying other Democrat tactics to buy time to find more votes. Questions were raised about punch card ballots, chads and other issues.

In the 2004 presidential election, G.W. Bush won Ohio. This allowed him to gain Ohio's electoral votes and thereby gain re-election to the presidency. The Democrats found a new villain in Ken Blackwell. Blackwell was Ohio's Secretary of State in charge of running Ohio's elections. He was also President Bush's Ohio campaign co-chairman. Criticisms were heaped on Ken Blackwell and the far left declared that the election again had been stolen. Also during this election, there were issues with some electronic voting machines and optical scan ballot reading machines.

So now, here we are in Athens County, Ohio, in 2006. If it was perfectly legitimate to question Katherine Harris and Ken Blackwell's involvement in elections, I believe it's past time to question Susan Gwinn's involvement in this election.
