Men's Basketball: Tillman looks to regain scoring touch against Kent

Jerome Tillman realizes that his team needs him to score if the Bobcats want to defeat Kent State tomorrow.

The forward, who is the Bobcats' second-leading scorer at 12.8 points per game, has averaged just 5.3 ppg and has shot 22 percent from the field over the past three games. Ohio has won just one of the three contests.

It is important for me to score

Tillman said. I have to be aggressive because my team needs me to play with a lot of energy and I think that's the key to helping us win.

Ohio coach Tim O'Shea said that while teams are doing a better job defending Tillman, he is not looking for as many shots as he could.

I'm not sure if it's so much what they're doing or if Jerome's not being as active as he needs to be O'Shea said. It might be a combination of the two

but Jerome's a guy we have a lot of confidence in.

Tillman did show signs of breaking his mini-slump in the second half against Toledo, where he scored all seven of his points.

I've been thinking a lot and putting too much pressure on myself

Tillman said. If I just let things flow and I play my game

I should be fine.

O'Shea remained confident that the junior would break out of the funk because of his work ethic.

Guys like Jerome

who are constantly working at improving and have the right attitude

tend to get through these mini-slumps pretty well

O'Shea said. I think if you're going to struggle a little bit

now is the time to do it.

Williams said. I always want to be out there helping my team in any way I can
