When Dr. Susanne Dietzel moved to Athens, the new director of the Ohio University Women's Center considered it to be a fresh start on many levels.
Dietzel, an experienced feminist activist and teacher, previously worked to recover women's resources in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

opposed to a post-disaster area Dietzel said. I'm excited that we have a brand-new women's center with such a nice facility.
Dietzel grew up in Germany but has also lived in Chicago and Minnesota. She previously served at women's centers at Tulane University in New Orleans and Loyola University in Chicago.
Dietzel plans to begin the year by gathering information from women on campus about OU's strengths and weaknesses in women's rights.
I just really want to get opinions and feedback from all of my diverse constituents Dietzel said.
The Women's Center is providing several opportunities for her to do so.
On Sept. 27, Dietzel will speak in conjunction with the OU Police Department and the Health Resources center as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
She will visit residence halls, wants to teach a class winter quarter and would like to bring a prominent feminist speaker to the center for a guest lecture.
I'm glad to be a part of public education at a larger university with so much opportunity
Dietzel stated.
Any students who are curious about the center as a resource are encouraged to stop by the facility, she said
(Feminism) has always just fit me like a glove
organizing on behalf of women has always been my passion
Dietzel said. I'm glad to continue that here.
