Thousands of revelers and music lovers will tote their lawn chairs, Frisbees and six-person beer bongs to a muddy cow field on Saturday for one of the largest fests Athens has to offer.
This year's Three Fest at The Big Red Barn and Field is expected to attract 7,500 people, said Dominic Petrozzi, the founder and coordinator of Three Fest. As of yesterday afternoon, 4,700 tickets were sold, he said. Last year's Two Fest attracted 6,200 people.
I think the reason why it is so successful is because we do it right
Petrozzi said. We don't spend a lot of money on radio or print. It's more of a word-of-mouth thing. It's kind of like a giant house party.
Nine bands ' including Downplay, Guest, B. Yonest and Ordinary Peoples ' will play most of the day. The festival also will include a life-of-the-party contest, a hot-body contest and Four pong ' beer pong replaced with Four alcoholic energy drinks ' to give the party a spring-break feel and keep it going all day.
Petrozzi said he hasn't changed the formula of Three Fest at all, but he is adding more to it this year.
More sponsors more port-a-potties more bands
more everything going on
he said. B. Yonest, Columbus rapper and Three Fest regular, expects a lot of crazy people and some people that will be participating in some things they shouldn't be doing, he said. He is not intimidated by the large audience.
It's the best party in Athens
B. Yonest said.
While he will be performing his usual set, B. Yonest is going to give his band lots of solos because it will be the last time he will perform with them. He said he is looking forward to getting audience members onstage and to passing out T-shirts.
I can guarantee a great time
B. Yonest said.
