A new dormitory is not the only change to Shively Hall that Ohio University students will notice next year.
Shively Dining Hall, which closed for renovation after Spring Quarter 2008, will reopen Winter Quarter 2010.
Similar to West 82 in Baker University Center, Shively will have stations offering dishes such as made-to-order pizzas, pasta and vegetarian options.
These separate stations will help reduce lengthy lines in Shively, said Gwyn Scott, executive director of Culinary and Dining Operations.
Shively will also maintain a deli bar that will serve students both in the dining hall and in the Grab'n'Go.
It is definitely going to be an oasis from what we currently have
said Emily Shuki, Residence Life commissioner for OU Student Senate.
Along with expanding meal options, the Shively Grab'n'Go will move into the rotunda from its previous location next to Morton Hill, allowing the dining hall to expand in its place.
The seating in Shively, however, will potentially decrease by about 100 seats because of increased restroom sizes, Shuki said, adding that students will be able to sit at tables or stand at a countertop to eat.
Shuki said Dining Services anticipates a mad rush to eat at Shively initially but hopes to subdue the influx by allowing specific residence halls to test options at the renovated dining hall prior to its reopening.
Freshman Megan Preston said that the newly renovated Shively would offer her another dining option in place of the often-crowded Jefferson dining hall.
I hate waiting longer to get my food than it actually takes to eat it she added.
Shively's tentative Grab'n'Go hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and until 3 p.m. on Friday. The dining hall will remain open until 2:30 p.m. for lunch Monday thru Friday and 8 p.m. for dinner thru Thursday.
The estimated price of the Shively renovation is $9.5 million.
