Football: Offense Ignites: Ohio rushes to 30-17 road win

Coach called some good plays and we executed

Davidson said. I think we had a great overall day of offense.

Davidson rushed for only 40 yards with a 3.6-yard average, but he looked more confident and aggressive as he hit holes more quickly and forcefully.

It feels great to finally get the running game started Davidson said. We just got to keep practicing and keep getting better. Vince Davidson's season had been going about as well as LeBron James' public relations campaign until Saturday.

The senior running back had accumulated only 123 rushing yards in four games. He averaged 2.6 yards per carry and had not come near the end zone.

But Davidson totaled 101 yards on the ground and through the air in Ohio's 30-17 win against Eastern Michigan. His 61-yard touchdown reception gave Ohio its largest lead of the day at the time, 24-10.

The offensive line did a great job opening up a lot of holes

The Bobcats had 252 combined rushing yards in their previous three games before they ran for 94 yards Saturday. No Bobcat had scored more than one rushing touchdown all season until Davidson's scores from two and seven yards away.

I've been waiting for that feeling since game one

Davidson said about reaching the end zone. Three TDs

hat trick

it feels great. Nothing better than that.

The Bobcats opened up the play calls in the running game. Quarterback Boo Jackson had more designed runs called for him than he had all season and accumulated 60 yards on the ground.

Running backs Ryan Boykin and Dallas Brown both played in the second half. Boykin hadn't seen the field since the season opener against Wofford.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats executed consecutive reverses with wide receivers Steven Goulet and Riley Dunlop. Goulet gained 23 yards on the first play and Dunlop scored from 18 yards one play later.

We came in knowing how their (defensive) ends would go here and there. They'd bite on some of the fakes we had

Jackson said. It definitely opened up our playbook. (Offensive coordinator Tim) Albin definitely game-planned this game really well.

Brazill in, then out

Wide receiver/punt returner LaVon Brazill started Saturday after sitting out Ohio's 24-23 loss to Marshall last week.

The Bobcats made Brazill a big part of the offense early, as he had three catches on the opening drive. He finished the first half with five catches for 46 yards.

But an injury shortened the senior's day, as coach Frank Solich said after the game that Brazill broke his hand and would be questionable for this week's game.

The injury is another bad turn for Brazill's season. He already has missed two games and has only 78 receiving yards on the year.

After leading the Football Bowl Subdivision with three punt-return touchdowns last season, Brazill fumbled his only attempt this year against Toledo.
