State Senator Troy Balderson will pay Student Senate a visit tonight.
At Student Senate's first meeting of 2012, Balderson, R-20, will speak about fracking and other state issues, Student Senate President Kyle Triplett said.
After Balderson’s presentation, Academic Affairs Vice-Commissioner Allie Dyer will speak with senate about educational inequality.
“She will be presenting projects she is working on and bring the topic of inequality to senate,” Triplett said.
There is one resolution up to fill the vacancy for the Scripps College of Communication senator. The previous senator switched colleges and could no longer represent Scripps, Triplett said.
Senate will be following up on Fall Quarter topics, including gender-neutral housing, a possible partnership with FourYears.com, general fee transparency and senate's safety campaign.
“We will (continue) stressing our approval and desire for the continuation of gender-neutral housing and follow up with administration about it,” Triplett said.
Senate will also be monitoring the use of FourYears.com, the book exchange website that was presented to senate early Fall Quarter. Senate passed a resolution to have the site’s link put up on the OU student homepage to make it more easily accessible. The link was added last Friday, Triplett said.
Along with its efforts in regards to accessibility, senate passed a resolution last quarter asking for more transparency of the general fee — a fee all students pay along with tuition — on OU’s website.
“There wasn’t any definition or numerical information on the website,” Triplett said. “The folks in the budget office have been working on this over break. We will follow up with them and it should be up and ready to go in the next couple of weeks.”
Senate will meet at 7:15 p.m. today in 235 Walter Hall.
