Sharp, Athens run by Wellston

Although it was Senior Night for Athens Friday evening at Peden Stadium, junior DeVon Sharp stole the spotlight away from the upperclassmen.

Sharp, the Bulldogs' tailback, carried the ball into the end zone four times and picked up 125 yards to lead the Bulldogs to a 33-7 win against Wellston.

Sharp eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the season with his performance.

I hate to even say this

I hate to say that it wasn't special but that's just DeVon head coach Ryan Adams said. As far as the four touchdowns go

he just happened to be the man to get the call on that particular play.

DeVon is just so compact, and he's got such great speed, and he's so versatile that he's hard to get a good, solid hit on. That allows him to roll and move to where he can keep progressing forward.

Sharp scored all but one of Athens' touchdowns. Chris Russell scored the second touchdown of the game

but Sharp even played a roll in that play

as he ran an option and timed the pitch just right

as Russell barreled in for the score.

That touchdown was set up in part by Josh Maxson

whose spectacular leaping

one-handed grab brought the Bulldogs inside the Wellston 10-yard line.

He's done all kinds of weird things like that this year, Adams said. In one game earlier this year, he caught a ball on a kickoff and hurdled a kid.

So

yeah

he's full of athletic ability
