The new Baker University Center, scheduled to open after the New Year, is going to create upwards of 200 jobs in its various dining and restaurant facilities.
Students will have the opportunity to work at jobs that are conveniently located in the middle of campus in new facilities.
Although this is a side effect of building bigger and better buildings on campus, it is one of the best results of the construction. Many students need supplementary income in college, and trying to arrange hours with non-university businesses can be an obstacle. And with university-operated buildings, the hours will be very defined.
Student jobs already available are usually the start-up positions in dining halls, which most undergrads avoid as much as possible. But soon, students can leave the university employment equivalent of McDonald's and apply to work at Athens' shiny new mall of a student center.
The university, for its part, needs to publicize the openings and make students aware that there are options for employment, some of them resembling jobs you usually could find only in Athens.
