As a proud mother of two sons who have served our country in the armed forces, I cannot stress the importance that our military men and women offer to our country both at the federal and local levels.
As we go to Election Day in less than a week, I hope Athens County remembers the importance of such service to our nation.
As these brave men and women return home, we need leadership that resonates with their commitment.
There is only one candidate who has the skill and experience to provide this leadership; it is Mike O’Brien for Athens County commissioner.
Mike is a fourth-generation veteran who stands as the only candidate to even bring up veterans issues in the recent League of Women Voters Forum.
During that forum, Mike proudly proclaimed, “I understand this county’s need to extend outreach to our heroes as they return from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan and advocate for them.”
Mike went on to commit to working with local veterans organizations to make sure that our brave men and women have the resources and assistance they need.
As a writer for The Interactivist, Mike was an advocate voice for our troops from issues such as the Walter Reed debacle to unfair denial of disability compensation. Mike is the only veteran and candidate to speak to this extremely important issue.
With an estimated 2,000 veterans in Athens County, we need someone who has stood in their shoes and is willing to fight on their behalf. There is no other candidate with the experience or commitment to get the job done more effectively than Mike O’Brien.
If you support our veterans as I do and wish for leadership on this very important issue, then I encourage you to vote for Mike O’Brien for Athens County commissioner on March 6.
Give our brave men and women a leader who will stand up for them as they have stood up for us. Vote O’Brien.
