Convicted dealer drops charges in drug dog lawsuit

The man suing an Athens drug dog voluntarily dismissed his lawsuit against the animal and other local officials during a 10 a.m. hearing Friday at the Athens County Court of Common Pleas.

Wayne Green was suing the drug-sniffing dog, Andi, Sheriff Vern Castle, Judge Michael Ward of Athens County Common Pleas Court, members of the Athens Police Department, members of the Athens County Sheriff's Office and members of the county prosecutor's office, including prosecutor C. David Warren, for an initial $450,000. He cited mental distress and property damages during the Nov. 19, 2003, search of his store and an adjacent building.

Green was convicted Nov. 30, 2005, of possession and trafficking of marijuana in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas. Sentencing for his criminal case is scheduled for April 18.
