Track: Though away, Jesse O Classic is just down the road for Ohio

Transportation will be a little easier this weekend.

Ohio will be staying close to home as they travel to Ohio State today and tomorrow for the Jesse Owens Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

This will be the first time in a while that the Bobcats have competed in the event.

We've not made the commitment to go to this meet year in and year out

coach Clay Calkins said It's been about four years since we've participated in [the Jesse Owens Classic] but we're taking the trip back up there this year.

The Bobcats have been on the road for much of the outdoor season.

Juniors Kari Summers and Annie Beecham have raced in California. The rest of the team has also traveled across the country, with meets in Michigan, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Ohio has only had one home meet.

Traveling is a big part of any college sport. Athletes can be going from city to city multiple times per week. In any sport traveling is something you're worried about as a coach Calkins said. Not only missing class

but it's the athletes being on the road and traveling that's tough.

The Jesse Owens Classic has performance standards for athletes to meet to be allowed to compete

so not everybody will compete.

The team that is attending will be well rounded

however

as several athletes from each part of the team will be participating.

After this weekend

there are only two weeks left until the Mid-American Conference Championships. A competitive meet like the Jessie Owens Classic can only help in preparation for the tournament.

We're really trying to get everybody to keep improving on a weekly basis, Calkins said.,",2,Sports,",28150a.jpg,Christain Bosch
